The team of outpatient nurses are lead by Angela Riella (Senior Sister), Sheila Bradley (Sister) and a small team of Hand Nurse Practitioners with their own caseload and patients. We are a team of 22 (16.75wte) with a variety of registered nurses and Health Care Assistants, who are trained to NVQ level. We also have 4 RNC Level Branch to cover our paediatric service within the establishment.
The outpatient service sees approximately 700 patients a week. These are distributed into new elective, new trauma and follow-up clinics plus minor operatives suit, which deals with local anaesthetic trauma procedures and some elective procedures.
We also have dedicated nurse led clinics, reviewing approximately 120 patients per week – a caseload of both post-op elective and trauma patients, with varying conditions e.g carpal tunnel release, fasciectomies etc. We also provide expertise in tissue viability issues, e.g. poly-trauma injuries to the hand and lower limb.
We work in close conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (surgeons, therapists, secretariat and research) with communication being the key issue in the efficient running of the department.
